1 Corinthians 2:6-16
God's Wisdom
6 Yet I do proclaim a message of wisdom to those who are spiritually mature. But it is not the wisdom that belongs to this world or to the powers that rule this world—powers that are losing their power. 7 The wisdom I proclaim is God's secret wisdom, which is hidden from human beings, but which he had already chosen for our glory even before the world was made. 8 None of the rulers of this world knew this wisdom. If they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 However, as the scripture says,
“What no one ever saw or heard,
what no one ever thought could happen,
is the very thing God prepared for those who love him.”
10 But[b] it was to us that God made known his secret by means of his Spirit. The Spirit searches everything, even the hidden depths of God's purposes. 11 It is only our own spirit within us that knows all about us; in the same way, only God's Spirit knows all about God. 12 We have not received this world's spirit; instead, we have received the Spirit sent by God, so that we may know all that God has given us.
13 So then, we do not speak in words taught by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, as we explain spiritual truths to those who have the Spirit.[c]14 Whoever does not have the Spirit cannot receive the gifts that come from God's Spirit. Such a person really does not understand them, and they seem to be nonsense, because their value can be judged only on a spiritual basis. 15 Whoever has the Spirit, however, is able to judge the value of everything, but no one is able to judge him. 16 As the scripture says,
“Who knows the mind of the Lord?
Who is able to give him advice?”
We, however, have the mind of Christ.
Have you ever looked at something a completely different way to someone else? If you are married, you probably know what i mean. If you are a parent you definitely know what I mean. I remember when my son was three and he called Emma, my wife, a ‘poopoo head.’ I told him that was not nice and he replied, ‘don’t worry. It is only banter!’
We were looking at the same event with different understanding. What Paul is saying in this passage is that it does not really matter how you see Something. It is how God sees it that really matters. How does God see your work situation. How does God see your relationships. How does God see your purpose. That is what matters the most.
It is easy to go down the pub and get advice from your friends. People love to tell you the best thing to do. However, if you can learn to see the world from God’s angle, it will transform the way that you experience it.
Perhaps the master verse on this in actually in Ephesians 1:18, “I pray that the eyes of your heart will be flooded with light so that you can see the wonderful future that God has promised to those he called.”
What you see around you is not all that there is to see. There is more and God wants to open your eyes of faith so that you can see things from his point of view. This is the beginning of wisdom, that we learn to see what God sees and to experience the life that he has for us. Others may not understand, in fact they certainly wont understand. But God wants to reveal hidden secrets to us that allow us to live bright and impactful lives.
