Jesus Heals Many
14 When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.
16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
“He took up our infirmities
and bore our diseases.”
It is easy to miss the sheer volume of healings and deliverances that Jesus performed. They were the defining trait of his work. Matthew was one of Jesus’ followers and would have been a firsthand witness to these wonders. He believed that these miracles were signs that fulfilled a prophecy that had been given centuries before, pointing towards Jesus’ identity as the Messiah who Israel had been waiting for and who would come to rescue them from their enemies. Jesus was a man of power and authority. Notice, that he would deliver people from demons with a single word and that everyone who was sick was healed. Everyone who came to him was restored.
Reflect
- Who are Messiah figures in our society? Prominent leaders, who people trust to lead us to a better future? How does Jesus compare to them?
- Where do you need to trust Jesus Today?

Pause and pray. Try to spend some time in silence giving God space to speak to you.
